This is an Incredible Tasting Smoothie HIGH in Protein
Caribbean Kale Smoothie
You can't even taste the kale in this smoothie!!
Ingredients:
1/2 cup frozen pineapple chunks (If you don't have pineapple you can substitute more frozen mango or papaya)
1/2 cup frozen mango chunks
1/3 Non-fat Greek Yogurt Vanilla or Plain (You can substitute coconut yogurt or coconut milk (full-fat) from a can if you want to make this smoothie dairy-free)
1oz Hemp seeds* (about 1/4 cup--see note below)
*Hemp seeds have a distinct taste so I would suggest starting with 1 TBS--blend your smoothie and add more as your taste for Hemp seeds develops. Or use Flax or Chia seeds as a substitute, both of which, have a more subtle taste. But for the overall nutritional value and added protein I choose Hemp seeds!
1/2 tsp lemon juice
1/2 cup to 1 cup chopped raw kale (start with a 1/2 cup add more as your taste adapts)
About 3/4 cup Orange Juice*
*If you like really sweet smoothies use Mango Juice
**If you have a Vita-mix or comparable you can use hemp seeds. If you do not have a very powerful blended I would use pre-ground hemp seeds or else there will be hard unappetizing pieces of un-ground hemp seeds in your smoothie. Also I prefer hemp seeds to Chia seeds as Hemp has almost 5 times more protein for an equivalent serving of Chia seeds.
**One once of Hemp Seeds contains 10 grams of protein!! Hemp seeds are a nutritional super-food high in protein, omega 3 and contain ALL nine essential amino acids!!
Directions:
Put all ingredients in blender. But start with only 1/2 cup of Orange juice and add more as needed. Blend well on high until hemp seeds are pureed.
This smoothie is packed with protein, vitamins and minerals! The Kale is a great source of iron and Vitamins: A, C & K. The mangoes packed with: Vit: A, B6, C and antioxidant compounds. Pineapple contains high amounts of Vit. C and manganese. The lemon juice and orange juice are liquid forms of Vit. C! And lastly 16 oz of this smoothie contains 21 grams of protein! (10 grams via the Hemp seeds and 11 grams from the Greek yogurt as well as calcium!) This smoothie is a great immune booster with natural sources of Vit. C, antioxidants among others!
